The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has issued a new policy on radio frequency allocations with some updates affecting various frequency bands and technologies.

Product with GPS cannot obtain a type approval unless the GPS is routed through a local server.
This will be thru hosting the clients GPS application on their servers (integrated with their application).The clients product with GPS will transmit data to local servers and from the local servers to the clients final destination. Example is a telematics product with GPS. The GPS feed would need to go from the telematics product to local servers which in turn would transmit the data to the clients service center.
Note that products in a "system" that tracks location and sends the data out of the country are also not allowed. An example would be some kind of engine sensor with Bluetooth that sends that information to a telematics device on the vehicle that then sends all data (including GPS data ) out of the country.

Frequencies allowed in Nepal:
900 MHz frequency band is allowed in Nepal and is currently used by mobile operators like Ncell for 4G LTE services.

Nepal NTA label requirements:
For identification of the equipment, equipment shall bear a clear, permanent and easily visible type plate or other equivalent contiguous type labeling with the following information:
• Name of manufacturer or an authorized company responsible for importing.
• Type or model
In addition “The person/company responsible for importing the devices should maintain record of all the unique Identifier/serial number and provide the same to the Authority as and when required”

International Type Approval and Safety Approval
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Type Approval process is a requirement for importing and selling radio and telecommunication equipment in Nepal. The process ensures that the equipment meets quality guidelines and safety standards.
- Type approval in Nepal requires acceptable CE test reports.
- Local representative required. If the manufacture does not have one, CSIA can offer this service.
- GPS products (vehicle tracking device), the local importer has to have a MoCIT GPS license, in addition to the type approval.
- All GPS data must run through a local server.
- Lead time for this service is approximately 8-9 weeks from the time all documents have been collected.
- Certificate is valid for 6 months. At that time we submit your product logs showing how many units you have imported and the agency will issue a 5 year certificate.
